Sunderland for Youths - Ipswich Town News

Town's youth side will face Sunderland at home in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup. On Monday the U18 team defeated Leeds 2-1 after extra-time at Elland Road in round three.

Town boss Joe Royle paid tribute to the youngsters' performance in West Yorkshire: "They were terrific.

"It was a very difficult night, it rained incessantly, the pitch got very difficult and there was a Pennine gale, which I know all about from my days at Oldham.

"The lads were terrific, played great football and thoroughly deserved to win 2-1, having hit the wood work twice. It was great to see.”

The date of the Portman Road tie has not yet been fixed but it must be played prior to Saturday, 31st January 2004.

Sunderland beat Charlton Athletic 2-0 at the Valley in the third round.
