Sheepshanks on Bart Deal - Ipswich Town News
Town chairman David Sheepshanks has welcomed the signing of Chris Bart-Williams, who earlier today signed a deal which will will keep him at Town until the end of the season.
Sheepshanks adds that good attendances at Portman Road have helped fund the move: "After several discussions I am pleased to say that we have been able to reach a deal with Charlton Athletic that suits both clubs.
"Whilst finances remain tight, improving attendance levels and a home cup tie have provided us with sufficient additional income to be able to sign Chris for the rest of the season.
"I am delighted that we have been able to secure Chris Bart-Williams as Joe Royle was very keen to sign him - he is having a big impact and has become an important member of the team.
"It is fantastic news that Chris has signed for us.
"Even though we had late competition from West Brom, he was only ever going to sign for Ipswich Town.
"Chris is a great character and has really enjoyed his time here. He has done well for us on the pitch, not only with his own form but also in the way he has brought out the best in others around him."
Town manager Joe Royle revealed that West Bromwich Albion made a late bid to take Bart-Williams to the Hawthorns: "It is fantastic news that Chris has signed for us.
"Even though we had late competition from West Brom, he was only ever going to sign for Ipswich Town.
"Chris is a great character and has really enjoyed his time here. He has done well for us on the pitch, not only with his own form but also in the way he has brought out the best in others around him."
