Joe Denies Gall Interest - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Joe Royle has denied reports linking him with a move for Yeovil striker Kevin Gall. However, Royle says he is set to step up his search for a loanee next week.

The Glovers' Welsh striker is clearly not a someone Royle is familiar with, despite the player's agent talking up apparent Town interest in the 21-year-old earlier in the week: "I'm not being disrespectful to the lad, but no.

"He might be a very good prospect but at the moment we will be looking for someone who can come in and make a big impact, not someone for the future.”

Royle didn't rule out one if his scouts having watched Gall, but says that at the moment there is no possibility of the former Bristol Rovers player coming to Portman Road.

The Town boss says there has been no interest in any of his players since the opening of the transfer window on Thursday: "I've neither had any enquiries nor would encourage any enquiries.”

Royle says he expects the transfer window to be quieter than some might expect: "I don't envisage much transfer activity anywhere, not just here.

"There'll be a glut of loans, which has been the trend on deadline day in recent years, and I don't think that will be bucked. I think that the transfer market as it was has changed into a loan market.”

Royle says he will continue his efforts for new loan players after the weekend cup tie is out of the way: "I'll look at the loan market seriously next week. I've made one or two enquiries this week about people, but we knew that we couldn't play any loan players in the cup game, so we've been looking to get this week out of the way.

"We saw the impact that the three loan players made last time when they came in, so it's certainly worth considering. It's got to be someone who can come in and make a difference. I'm not going to take anybody in just to be a squad player.”

With Alan Mahon returning to Blackburn, the obvious area Royle might look to cover with a loanee is left midfield, however, the Town boss says this isn't necessarily the case: "Alan Mahon came in because at the time Martijn Reuser was injured and Ian Westlake hadn't emerged in the way that he did.

"The pressure there has somewhat changed, so it wouldn't necessarily be that position.”
