Abbey Leaves Town - Ipswich Town News

Short-term signing Nathan Abbey has left the Blues after his spell as goalkeeping cover. With Andy Marshall returning from his loan spell at Wolves, and Lewis Price and Shane Supple both on the road to fitness, it was decided that Town no longer required the former Luton man.

Joe Royle thanked Abbey for his efforts in his time at Portman Road: "Nathan has been brilliant to have around the place. I have told him he can come and train with us any time he wants to.

"He understands the situation and knows we can not offer him anything. We have Andy back, Lewis coming back and Shane Supple is also fit again so we can not justify keeping him.”

Marshall will be on the bench against Crewe on Saturday with Lewis Price still a month away from a return after his finger ligament injury.

The former England U21 will be between the sticks for the reserve away game with Wimbledon on Wednesday night.

Central defender Drissa Diallo will also face the Dons and if he comes through the game will probably return to the first team squad for the Crewe game.

Dean Bowditch, Georges Santos and Ian Westlake may also be involved at Milton Keynes.

One man who won't be getting any Town reserve action is ex-Reading striker Jamie Cureton. Contrary to reports, the Blues say he is not on his way to Portman Road for a trial.
