Stewart Venus Out - Ipswich Town News

Town will be without both Mark Venus and Marcus Stewart for tonight's crunch second leg Worthington Cup match with Millwall. Town's Saturday goal hero Marcus Stewart has a groin strain, while Venus is suffering from a strained hamstring.

George Burley is loathe to play players with even the slightest injury in the Worthington Cup, with the Premier League very much his priority.

Town may well line-up with all remaining fit strikers, James Scowcroft, David Johnson and Richard Naylor in order to claw back the two-goal deficit from last week's match at the Den, although the Blues could start with the 4-4-2 formation they employed so successfully at Elland Road and against Arsenal.

Amir Karic seems set to be on the bench again, but may get a game late on, especially if Town have put themselves in front by that stage.

Probable Town squad: R Wright, Salmon, Wilnis, Bramble, Hreidarsson, Clapham, J Wright, Magilton, Holland, Scowcroft, Johnson, Naylor, McGreal, Reuser, Croft, Karic, Brown and Scales.

Stuart Niven is having trials at Barnet after being released by Town at the weekend.

George Burley has denied any interest in Belgian defender Didier Dheedene. National newspapers have been touting this story for a few weeks now, however the Town manager says that any interest in defenders of Dheedene's type went when Amir Karic was signed.
