Joe: Town Looked Tired - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Joe Royle said his side looked tired during the 4-2 loss at Burnley. He added that his team cannot afford to keep giving the opposition two-goal leads.

Royle said: "It's never dull with us - never bet on us having a 0-0.

"But we can't afford to give teams two-goal starts and we seem to allow our opponents luxuries they don't allow us.

"We looked tired - perhaps six hours on a coach didn't help - but we were poor in the first half when bad marking again led to us conceding goals.

"We gave it a go and at 3-2 had three chances to equalise. But I can't have any complaints about the result."

Burnley boss Stan Ternent admitted that Town were close to getting something from the game: "It was a bit nervy late on, as you might expect when it's 3-2. They hit the post, but I thought we deserved to win the match.

"Two goals in two minutes gave us a nice cushion, but I knew they would come out fired-up the second half.

"Getting a third goal was always going to be important. But even though we did, it didn't make it straightforward - because we never do things simply.

"Joe has been responsible for us having some bad days down the years, so I was due to put one over on him. By the law of averages it was my day, although I would have been a lot more comfortable had we been awarded the penalty we should have had when Glen was fouled with the score at 3- 0."
