Town's young reserves side lost 3-1 to Charlton at the Valley on Monday night. The Blues went two behind before Ben Patten, one of the new sigings from Ford United, netted, but the Addicks later increased their lead.
South African international Shaun Bartlett scored twice and Alex Varney once for the more experienced home side. Bartlett was later stretchered off after a clash of heads with Alfie Kamara.
With the first team squad away in Tenerife, reserves boss Steve McCall had a young squad to pick from with Nabil Abidallah the most senior player involved.
Town: Price, Mitchell, Barron, Patten, Collins, Sobers, Abidallah (Flack 57), Kamara (Atay 71), Morrow, Bowditch, Boardley.
