Arsenal Angry at Sobers - Ipswich Town News
Arsenal are angry with new Town signing Jerrome Sobers after the 17-year-old put Gunners' youngster Ryan Smith out for the rest of the year. Sobers, then a trialist, was making his debut for the reserves two weeks ago, prior to joining the Blues permanently last week.
Sobers was booked for the challenge which came early on in the game. Smith, who has made three senior appearances for Arsenal, suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will be out of action until at best the end of the year.
Reserve coach Steve McCall felt the challenge was not malicious: "We are very upset for the lad - I didn't realise it was that serious - but it was an honest tackle by Jerrome.
"It was early in the game and he was caught out by the Arsenal lad's pace."
