Elliott Joins on Loan - Ipswich Town News

Leicester City centre-half Matt Elliott has joined Town on a month's loan. Manager Joe Royle says he has been tracking the 35-year-old for several weeks.

Royle told the club site: "I have been chasing Matt for three weeks and am delighted that he has agreed to join us.

"Matt will be with us for a month and has come in a time when we are experiencing an injury crisis at the back. In fact, at the moment, he is our only fit centre-half!"

Elliott was most recently in the spotlight when he was one of nine Leicester players arrested in La Manga.

He was later released without charge and, according to Royle, there seems little prospect of any further developments on that front: "Neither Leicester nor ourselves anticipate any problems in that area."

Elliott is a former team-mate of Town skipper Jim Magilton from his days with Oxford United.

The ex-Scotland international has made 704 senior club appearances and has scored 85 goals in a professional career with Leicester, Oxford, Scunthorpe, Torquay and Charlton, after starting with non-league Epsom and Ewell in 1987.

Internationally, he has won 18 caps for Scotland, scoring one goal.

This season he has made eight appearances for Leicester, receiving a red card in their game against Birmingham in December.
