McDonald Linked - Ipswich Town News

A Scottish newspaper is reporting that the Blues have been keeping an eye on Motherwell striker Scott McDonald. The Australian is out of contract in the summer and was apparently watched in last week's 1-0 defeat to Rangers.

The 20-year-old 5ft 8in front man joined Terry Butcher's club in January and has won himself a regular place in their starting line-up, making eight starts but scoring only one goal.

He began the season on a monthly contract with Wimbledon, having been released by Southampton last summer. During a two-year spell with the Saints he spent time on loan at Huddersfield and Bournemouth.

Prior to joining Southampton, McDonald, who is from Melbourne, had played for Australia at the U17s World Cup where he scored twice as his side reached the final only to lose to Brazil. His performances there led to trials at Arsenal and West Ham, while a number of German clubs also showed interest.

McDonald was recently included in an Australian U23 squad and could feature in their Olympic side.
