De Vos in Canada Action - Ipswich Town News

Town fans could get the opportunity to see new signing Jason De Vos in international action as soon as Sunday afternoon. The central defender is expected to be included in Frank Yallop's side facing Wales at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

The friendly is being covered live by BBC2 Wales which is available via some digital TV packages.(2.15pm).

Canada are using the game as a warm-up for their incredibly complicated and convoluted World Cup qualifying campaign, which starts with a two-legged tie with Belize on June 13th and 16th, both games being played at the Richardson Stadium in Kingston, Ontario.

The overall winners of those games will go through to the semi-final stage, along with 11 other sides who will be drawn into three groups of four teams.

Group matches will then be played on the following dates: August 18th, September 4th/5th, September 8th, October 9th/10th, October 13th and November 17th.

The top two from each group will go through to the final stage, made up of one group of six teams. Match dates (all 2005): February 9th, March 26th/27th, March 30th, June 4th/5th, June 8th, August 17th, September 3rd/4th, September 7th, October 8th/9th and October 12th.

The top three teams in the group will automatically qualify for the finals, but the side in fourth will face a play-off with the winners of a knock-out game from the Asian qualifying region.

Canada's World Cup campaign could force De Vos to miss a significant number of Town games during 2004/05 and even some in 2005/06.

Also in the squad for the Wales match is QPR midfielder Marc Bircham, recently linked with the Blues, although looking increasingly likely to sign for Sheffield United.

Canada also face Frank Yallop's former club the San Jose Earthquakes in a friendly in the US on June 5th.

De Vos, who has scored three international goals in 43 games, will become the fourth Town player to represent Canada, following in the footsteps of current national side coach Frank Yallop, U23 Olympic team coach Bruce Twamley and goalkeeper Craig Forrest.
