International Weekend - Ipswich Town News

Town had no less than six representatives involved with their respective countries at the weekend: Hermann Hreidarsson, Jim Magilton, Sean Friars, Titus Bramble, Amir Karic and Matty Holland. Titus Bramble scored on Friday for the England U21s, and Matty came off the bench to score a 20 yard equaliser against Portugal.

Mick McCarthy was full of praise for the Town captain: "Matty is a tremendous footballer. If Roy Keane is ever missing now through injury or even loss of form we know we will not miss him as much as we would have without a player like Matty round." Praise indeed, but he is not expected to start agaist Estonia on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Town are said to be chasing Mehdi Mahdavikia, an Iranian international striker currently under contract at SV Hamburg. The 23 year old was apparently watched by ourselves, Arsenal and Manchester United at a recent Champions League game against Deportivo La Coruna.
