Dale Game Ticket News - Ipswich Town News

Tickets to the Dale Roberts testimonial go on sale from June 21st. Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby Robson has promised to field a strong side for the Wednesday, July 28th match.

Roberts lost his fight against cancer in February 2003 while first-team coach with the Blues. During the 70s he had been a player in Robson's Town team.

The former England manager paid tribute to Roberts: "Dale was a Geordie lad, like me, and I took him down to Ipswich from the north-east.

"He made his debut when I was manager at Portman Road and was a good, solid, reliable defender.

"He was also a great character and a real competitor, someone who was very loyal and I am very pleased to be able to play a part in this testimonial match.”

Another ex-Town boss and a great friend of Dale's, George Burley, is on the committee organising testimonial events. The Scot thanked the boards of both clubs: "I am very pleased that everything has been arranged for the 28th July, for the game in memory of Dale.

"I'd like to thank the board of directors of both Ipswich and Newcastle for agreeing to play this match. It promises to be a very special night and I know that fans from both Ipswich and Newcastle will help us support such a good cause.”

Town chief executive Derek Bowden added: "It is only right and proper that we should host this event for such a loyal servant of this club.

"As a player and coach Dale always gave 100 per cent and his many friends both here at Portman Road and up at St James' Park are determined that this match will be a fitting tribute to his memory.”

Tickets for the match will go on sale by telephone via the ITFC ticket line (01473 400555), online through the official website and in via the three Planet Blue shops in Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds from Monday, June 21st.

Tickets are £12 for adults, £8 concessions and £3 for children. Sponsorship and corporate hospitality opportunities are available by contacting Town's sales team on 01473 400052.
