Town Fail in Masters - Ipswich Town News

Town's veterans failed to make the final of the Central Masters tournament at Coventry on Sunday evening. The Blues won one, drew one and lost one, finishing third in the four-team group.

Two late goals gave Coventry, the eventual winners, a 2-0 victory in the Blues' first fixture.

The over-35s got themselves back in the running with a superb 5-2 thrashing of Leicester, the goals coming from Micky Stockwell, Jason Dozzell, Simon Milton, Trevor Putney and Bontcho Guentchev.

The Blues needed to beat Norwich in their final group match to meet Coventry in the final but profligate finishing and mistakes in defence saw the game end 2-2, Town's goals coming from Jason Dozzell and Steve McGavin.

That left Town third ahead of Norwich City, the Canaries still without a victory in two years of Masters Football.

Town: Bracey, Stockwell, Thompson, Brennan, Putney, Milton, Dozzell, Atkins, Guentchev, McGavin.
