Joe on McGreal Move - Ipswich Town News

Town manager Joe Royle says he first became aware that John McGreal was destined to move to Burnley when he received a phonecall from the player's agent this morning. McGreal was revealed as Clarets' player today, having signed a three-year deal.

Royle, in Coimbra to co-commentate on England's game with Switzerland for the BBC this evening, says the central defender's agent phoned him: "I had a call from John's agent this morning.

"John's had an injury-ridden couple of seasons and we took that into consideration when we made our [one-year] offer to him.

"I can see his point of view. He is looking for more security and we wish him all the best."

Keeper Lewis Price and defender Chris Makin have already indicated they'll be signing their new deals, however, Royle says he is yet to hear from a number of other out-of-contract players: "I am still waiting to hear from Fabian Wilnis, Jim Magilton and Richard Naylor, but the offers we have made them do not run out until the
28th of this month.

"They must decide by then what they are going to do."

Midfielder Jermaine Wright looks certain to leave Portman Road after being offered contracts by Leeds and Everton. The Toffeemen look favourites to secure the former Crewe player's signature.
