Makin Exits - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that Town full-back Chris Makin will not be signing his new deal with the club. The defender was not at pre-season training this morning and instead travelled to another club for a medical.

Makin has been stalling on signing his new Town deal - an interim offer of two months while he proved his fitness after last season's hip injury. If successful, the former Oldham, Marseille and Sunderland man would have been offered terms until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old's destination remains a mystery, however, it is believed he has been offered a longer-term deal than was on the table at Portman Road.

Several sides have expressed an interest in the out-of-contract defender, at least one from the Premiership. Recently linked QPR are not thought to be the club involved.

Makin's exit will come as a big blow to manager Joe Royle who was the full-back's manager early on in his career at Oldham.

Town's other three out-of-contract players — Fabian Wilnis, Jim Magilton and Richard Naylor - are expected to sign deals which keep them at Portman Road for another season.
