Mallorca Set for Visit - Ipswich Town News

Real Mallorca have been named as Town's continental opposition in the final pre-season game of the summer. The Spanish club will visit Portman Road on Monday, August 2nd.

Town planned a game against Lazio - who owe the Blues two friendlies as part of the deal which took Matteo Sereni to Rome last summer - but the two clubs could not agree on a date.

The Italian side will visit Town on one of the international weekends during the season, with the second game likely next summer.

Mallorca, whose coach Luis Aragonés left to take over the Spanish national side last week, are on a pre-season tour in England and face Leicester, Middlesbrough and Norwich in addition to the Blues.

The game may mean a return to Portman Road for former Blue Finidi George. The Nigerian rejoined Real in January on a free transfer, having been released by Town last summer.

However, the departure of Aragonés may mean an exit for George, who was on a play-to-be-paid deal to the end last season. Aragonés had previously signed George when manager of Real Betis and in his first spell as Mallorca boss.

The Nigerian joined Town for £3.1 million in the summer of 2001 after Aragonés departed for Atletico Madrid but rarely lived up to his billing with the Blues.

Last summer his Portman Road contract was settled, the ex-Ajax man receiving £1 million payable over 18 months, around half what he would have gained had he seen out his contract.
