Town in Talks - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Joe Royle has revealed that the club is in talks with an agent and a club regarding a midfielder. Royle needs to add a midfield player to his squad as a replacement for Jermaine Wright.

Royle said: "I have spoken to a player's agent, as well as his club, but that's all I am prepared to say at this stage.

"There is a possibility that he will be able to join us on the tour to Denmark next week, but I would have to say it is unlikely.

"Things can change in a phone call, in fact in a split second, so you never know. But we have put forward some proposals and are waiting to hear."

That Royle is talking to a club suggests the player is not out of contract and could possibly be in a position similar to one Martijn Reuser found himself in prior to last week's move to Willem II.

The Dutchman had another year left on his deal at Town but the Blues were keen to cut their losses on his contract to allow him to leave on a free transfer.

As well as additions to the squad via loans and permanent transfers, Royle has high hopes for Acedemy players like Scott Barron, Aidan Collins, Gerard Nash, Scott Mitchell and Antonio Murray this season.

Aside from Nash, who is still recovering from his cruciate knee operation, the rest are likely to have some involvement at Peterborough on Saturday (KO 3pm).

Royle says he has no qualms about throwing in the youngsters: "We keep producing these young players and we will keep giving them a chance, which is where I come in. I don't mind about age. It's ability that counts."

Town will take a squad of 17 to London Road. Royle's initial plan to field two teams, one in each half, has been scuppered by a new rule reducing the number of subs to six.
