Two Targets for Joe - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Joe Royle says he would like to have two new players in his squad before the season begins with a home game against Gillingham on August 7th. However, he admits that the Portman Road budget is still tight.
Royle told the club site: "It's probably a case of players moving out first before we can bring someone in, certainly on a permanent deal that is.
"But we have targets in mind and we used the loan market well last season. Whether it be one loan and one permanent signing, I would certainly like to have a couple of new players here before we kick-off the season."
The exit of Georges Santos on a free transfer, probably to QPR, could well free up some cash in the next few days.
Unlike this time last season, Royle has a loan budget. A year ago, he had to wait until striker Marcus Bent and his £18,000-a-week wage departed to Leicester before Chris Bart-Williams, Alan Mahon and Shefki Kuqi could be brought in on short-term deals.
Royle has said he wants a striker and a midfielder.
Meanwhile, ex-Town full-back Chris Makin continues his trial at Leicester. The ex-Sunderland man is expected to play in the Foxes' friendly against the MK Dons this evening.
