Westy for England? - Ipswich Town News
Midfield dynamo Ian Westlake has been issued with a challenge by manager Joe Royle ahead of his second full season with the first team squad. Royle says that if the Clacton-born player does well he can force himself into Peter Taylor's England U21 squad.
Westlake was the story of last season, coming from occasional sub to player of the year. Royle says the 20-year-old's next target should be representative honours: "The challenge for him is to go on and take what he did and say 'I want to be in the England U21s'.
"If he carries on playing regular football and maintains his progress, then I am sure Peter Taylor will get to know about him.
"We are delighted with his progress but do not want to put too much pressure on him."
