Reserves 5-0 Histon Res - Ipswich Town News

Town's reserves continued their pre-season with a 5-0 home win over Ridgeons League club Histon Town's second string at Playford Road. All the goals came in a second half dominated by the home side.

The Blues fielded 18-year-old Icelandic trialist Eyjolfur Hedinsson in the first half but the neither the striker or any of his team-mates were able to break the deadlock.

Midfielder Daniel Flack forced Histon's former Town Academy keeper Lee Hulyer into the first of a number of good saves and Irish frontman Billy Clarke hit a rasping 20-yarder over the crossbar, in a generally scrappy first 45 minutes.

Three minutes after the break, the Blues got the scoring under way, Clarke tapping in after Hulyer had failed to hold on after blocking from sub striker Cameron Wilson, a Canadian trialist.

Stuart Boardley, on a short-term deal to prove his fitness, headed home a Flack cross from the right for the second two minutes later.

Wilson added a third on 68, before Georges Santos, Town's only senior player on show, headed in the fourth from a corner.

With seven minutes remaining, captain Scott Mitchell netted the fifth after Histon had failed to clear a corner.

Keeper Hulyer did well to keep the score down as the part-timers tired in the second period.

The game was watched by Town boss Joe Royle, coach Steve McCall and a number of first team players, including captain Jim Magilton and Darren Bent.

Town: Price, Hogg, Barron, Murray, Sobers (Patten 86), Santos, Flack, Mitchell, Hedinsson (Wilson 46), Clarke (Guentchev 68), Boardley (Atay 53).
