Matt's Record Breaker? - Ipswich Town News

Matt Holland's attempt to break the ITFC record for continuous appearances as an outfield player may be scuppered by his inclusion in the Ireland squad for their next two games.

So far Matt has made 116 consecutive appearances and unless other Town players are called up at the same time or he is allowed to join the squad late, it is likely he will miss the game with Barnsley.

The current record is held by right-back George Rumbold who made 127 consecutive appearances for the club between 1946 and 1950. I'm sure they'll work something out for Matt though.

Talking of international call-ups David Johnson has been selected for the Jamaica squad to play the United States on September 8th.

Fortunately other players may be called into international squads at the same time, Richard Wright with England, Jim Magilton with Northern Ireland and/or Sean Friars for Northern Ireland U21s. George Burley has also hinted that any incoming players may be likely for call-ups for their national full or U21 sides.

Jonas Axeldal will have his chance to shine in tomorrow's reserve game with Bournemouth at Portman Road, kick-off 2.30pm. So far he has been given about 15 minutes over four games for Town and is hopeful of winning an extension to his current one-month deal. Jim Magilton also makes his return from injury.
