Academy Win Tournament - Ipswich Town News

Town's Academy won the Dutch Doetinchem U19 youth tournament for the second year running at the weekend. The Blues beat Borussia Dortmund on penalties in Sunday afternoon's final after a 1-1 draw.

In their first game at the group stage on Saturday Town beat Swedish club Djurgådens 1-0 via a Blair Hammond goal.

Later the same day, they defeated De Graafschap, the home side and Fabian Wilnis's former club, 3-0, Billy Clarke, Liam Craig and Cathal Lordan scoring the goals.

The Blues youngsters drew their third and final group game 1-1 against another Dutch side, Vitesse, Liam Craig again the scorer.

That result saw Town to the top of their group on seven points, Borussia Dortmund winning the other section.

In the final Billy Clarke scored the Town goal, Joern Neumeister netting for the German side before the Blues retained their trophy via penalty kicks.

The other clubs taking part in the tournament were Martijn Reuser's new club Willem II, FC Kopenhagen and Ajax.
