Two More for Bent - Ipswich Town News

Town striker Darren Bent lived up to his England U21 supersub tag by scoring twice after coming on in a 3-1 win in Poland. Bent came off the bench in the 62nd minute and netted a penalty and a header.

England had gone behind to a Marcin Burkhardt goal on five minutes but Carlton Cole controversially struck back on the stroke of half-time with a Poland player on the ground injured.

This clearly annoyed defender Dariusz Dudka who talked his way into a yellow and then a red card.

Bent netted his first goal in the 72nd minute when Jermaine Pennant was rather harshly adjudged to have been fouled in the box, the Town man hitting the ball low and hard to the keeper's left.

Carlton Cole turned provider in the 83rd minute when he crossed to Bent at the far post, the 20-year-old nodding the ball home from six yards.

Bent has now scored six goals in his first eight U21 games, all from the bench.

Town midfielder Ian Westlake once again failed to make the final 16.
