Youths Go Through - Ipswich Town News

Town's U18s progressed to the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup after defeating Stoke City in extra-time at the Britannia Stadium, both goals coming from Liam Craig. The youngsters can look forward to a home tie against either Aston Villa or Port Vale in the next round.

The Blues went ahead in the sixth minute through Craig after good build-up from Darryl Knights and Billy Clarke.

Knights and Clarke both came close to adding a second, the Irish U19 international missing a couple of good chances and also feeling he ought to have had a penalty when he was felled inside the area.

Stoke grabbed a last gasp lifeline in the 90th minute when sub Francino Francis netted an undeserved equaliser, although the Blues felt that Aidan Collins was fouled in the build-up.

Despite this set-back, it was to be the Blues' night and skipper Liam Craig scored his second of the night from the spot in the sixth minute of extra-time after handball by a Stoke defender.

Town will learn the identity of their fifth round opponents on January 20th when Villa take on Port Vale at Villa Park. Fifth round matches must be played prior to 19th February.

U18s: Supple, Moore, Krause, Casement, Collins, Beveridge, Garvan, Lordan, Clarke, Craig, Knights. Subs: Haverson, Ainsley, Trotter, Sheringham, Haynes.
