Break a Benefit - Ipswich Town News

Assistant manager Willie Donachie says that the squad will benefit from their break in Tenerife. The players will take part in light training sessions while they are away before returning ahead of the next league match at Sheffield United a week on Saturday.

Donachie told the club site: "The stats say that we are among the fittest teams in the Championship, we are very high in that area.

"But at this stage of the season it's a mental game as much as a physical one, more so in fact.

"That's why it's important to give the players a break when you can, get them out into a new environment; a change of scenery.

"It's a long, hard season and the players need a break from the mental pressure of competing against each other in training every day and on a Saturday, where every team wants to beat us.

"It's vital that we keep the players 'alive' mentally between now and the end of the season and a few days in Tenerife will help.

"Physically they will benefit from a few days off. We will still be doing some running and light work but will try and make that as different as possible from what they are used to."
