Peters Wins Seventh Cap - Ipswich Town News

Jaime Peters won his seventh full Canada cap as Frank Yallop's side lost 4-1 away in Portugal in a friendly. Peters, who officially joins the Blues when he turns 18 on May 4th, came on as a 78th minute substitute in the game in Barcelos.

Portugal went three goals up through Manuel Fernandes, Pedro Pauleta and former Spur Helder Postiga, before Hearts defender Kevin McKenna pulled one back for the Canadians with five minutes remaining. Nuno Gomes added to Portugal's advantage in the final minute.

Ex-Town defender and current Canada head coach Frank Yallop felt his side deserved more from the game: "The score-line doesn't reflect the Canadian performance.

"When you play a top team like Portugal they will punish you when you make mistakes. Overall, there were many positives and good individual performances. The team played well."

Peters has been called into the Canada U20 squad for a training camp in Germany next month. The 17-year-old recently scored his first goal for Town since agreeing to join the Blues, in the reserves' 6-1 friendly win against Cambridge United.

The right-sided winger will join up with the rest of the Canada U20 squad on April 19th and will be involved in matches against China and Egypt during the 11-day camp.
