Royle Gets Everton Award - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Joe Royle has been named the Everton Giant for 2004. The Toffeemen add a new name to their Giants List every year.

Royle was presented with his award by former team-mate Brian Labone at half-time during Everton's 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday night. The game was the first time Everton had beaten United since Royle led them to victory in the 1995 FA Cup final.

Royle said: "I always love coming back here. Once Everton gets into your blood it's there to stay.

"Nothing changes about this place, everyone is so warm and friendly and it's something that my wife Janet commented on when we arrived. We've had handshakes and goodwill messages from people who must have been far too young to ever see me play.

"When I see the list of players and managers already in this Giants List I feel very humble yet very proud to be a part of it. To go back out onto the pitch and get such a warm reception from the Evertonians was terrific and will live with me for a long time."
