Former Town centre-half Jason Cundy has been forced to retire after failing to recover from a knee injury. The 31-year-old moved to Portsmouth on a free at the end of the 98/99 season, but managed just eleven appearances with his new club, one against Town at Fratton Park last season in the 1-1 draw.
Cundy was a popular figure at Town despite blotting his copybook with a wonder goal for previous club Spurs at Portman Road. In a live Sky game Cundy walloped a ball towards the Town half and a strong wind looped the ball past Craig Forrest. However he was quickly forgiven and 'Cundy from the halfway line' rang out from the North Stand during his debut for the Blues.
Cundy had come to Town originally on loan and the Blues gladly paid Spurs £200,000 for him when this period ended. The ex-Chelsea man had quickly impressed and even joined Matt Holland on his post-match laps of honour.
His career at Town reached its lowest point when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Fans and players were kept in the dark as he underwent treatment which thankfully put him on the road to recovery.
However, the next season injury struck again and at the end of the season George Burley decided he had one centre-half too many and that Cundy was surplus to requirements.

Newcastle have slapped a massive £20 million price-tag on Kieron Dyer as speculation suggests Leeds may put in an offer for the former Town man. Italian clubs are also thought to be interested in the midfielder.
Stories are circulating that he is unhappy in the North-East and may prefer a move further south, but Newcastle are keen to keep the man they paid Town more than £6 million for.
Should Dyer leave Town would get a percentage Newcastle's profit on the transfer.
