Town in for Helguson? - Ipswich Town News

Watford striker Heidar Helguson is reported to be on Town boss Joe Royle's list of potential replacements for striker Darren Bent. Earlier this month TWTD revealed that the Icelander could be amongst Royle's summer targets.

Stoke City, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Reading and Leeds are also said to be tracking the 27-year-old, who has a year left on his Watford deal. Last week the Helguson rejected a new contract with the Hornets.

Capped 33 times by Iceland, the 5ft 10in frontman has scored five international goals. He joined Watford from Norwegian club Lillestrom for £1.5 million in August 1999 and has made 199 senior appearances during his time at Vicarage Road, scoring 64 goals.

Watford are hopeful of achieving a fee in excess of £1 million for Helguson, however the club's difficult financial situation may see their main asset leave for less.

Other names mentioned as possible Town targets once Bent's expected move is completed include released former Sheffield United striker Ashley Ward, Bristol City's Leroy Lita and Scunthorpe's Paul Hayes, a former Norwich trainee, while Duncan Ferguson has almost inevitably again been linked with a move to Portman Road.
