Murphy to Join Sunderland - Ipswich Town News
Town target Daryl Murphy is ready to complete his move to Sunderland on June 1st. The Waterford United frontman, 22, had two spells on trial with the Blues and Joe Royle was keen to sign him in the summer if the cash was there and the Irish U21 international was still available.
Waterford agreed a fee of €100,000 with Sunderland last month, but Murphy was unhappy with the terms intially offered by the Black Cats. However, the striker has now agreed a deal and will formally complete his move to Wearside when the transfer window opens in June.
The former Luton trainee is determined to prove himself at a higher level: "Mick McCarthy says he rates me and that I can do a job there. I just have to prove myself. But for someone like him to say that I'm good enough for the Premiership gives me a boost."
The Black Cats also look likely to sign Town keeper Kelvin Davis and midfielder Tommy Miller, while Darren Bent has also been targeted.
