Chairman on Bids - Ipswich Town News

Chairman David Sheepshanks has confirmed that he has held talks with his Sunderland counterpart Bob Murray regarding Kelvin Davis's switch to Wearside. Sheepshanks has also confirmed that the club has had bids for striker Darren Bent, but so far they have not been accepted.

Davis's move is expected to be completed early this week, but Sheepshanks says the Black Cats aren't the only interested party: "I have had discussions with Sunderland chairman Bob Murray, but that is all I can say at the moment.

"We have heard of interest from other clubs but there has been no formal approach for Kelvin by anyone else at the moment."

The fee for Davis remains the subject of conjecture, while a newspaper story today suggests the sell-on to the keeper's former club the MK Dons may not be as high as the 50% initially reported by the same source at the time of the 28-year-old move to Portman Road.

Sheepshanks has confirmed that there have been solid bids for Bent: "We are aware of interest from more than one club and we had had offers for Darren, but as yet nothing has been accepted."

Charlton were said to have made a £3.2 million bid a few days ago and are expected to return with a higher offer this week.

Sunderland have also shown an interest but the Addicks, who had a £3 million bid turned down last August, have always appeared favourites to sign the England U21 international. Newly-promoted Wigan are the latest club linked.

Elsewhere, Tommy Miller is reported to be holding talks with Leeds United on Wednesday as the Elland Road club seek to persuade the Town midfielder, available on a Bosman free transfer, to turn down the chance to sign for Sunderland.

Released Sheffield United striker Ashley Ward is the latest striker linked with a move to the Blues.

Former Town winger Bobby Petta is set to sign for League One side Bradford City.
