Sheepshanks on Davis Fee - Ipswich Town News

Chairman David Sheepshanks has revealed the fee agreed with Sunderland for Kelvin Davis is a "seven-figure sum". However, Sheepshanks made no mention of the percentage due to the MK Dons.

Newspaper stories at the time of Davis's free transfer to the Blues in 2003 suggested the percentage was 50% but the same sources reported earlier this week that it was actually a lower figure.

Sheepshanks, speaking on national radio, said the precise size of the fee for Davis is being kept under wraps at the request of Sunderland.

The former England U21 international keeper was in talks with the Black Cats yesterday and negotiations are expected to continue today.

Portsmouth have become the latest Premiership club to be linked with Town striker Shefki Kuqi. The Finnish international has already been mentioned in connection with West Ham and Blackburn, while interest from Sunderland now appears to have been pure speculation.

Pompey have transfer listed former Town loanee David Unsworth. The one-time England international is not in new manager Alain Perrin's plans.

Unsworth has a year left on his deal at Fratton Park and a move to Portman Road looks very unlikely given Town's financial constraints.

Sunderland are expected to complete the £70,000 signing of Town target Daryl Murphy later this week.

The Irish U21 international had two spells on trial at Portman Road and Joe Royle was keen to make him a Town player this summer.

The Black Cats have had a £1 million bid for Watford's Heidar Helguson turned down. Helguson was Royle's first choice as a replacement for Darren Bent but the much-admired Icelander is well beyond Town's means.

Derby County have denied a report which claimed that skipper Jim Magilton was set for a move to Pride Park as a player-coach.

Director of football Murdo Mackay said: "I'd heard rumours of him being linked with us but there's nothing to suggest we will be going for him. He's certainly a footballer I admire but we haven't spoken to him and he's not on our list."

Magilton, now 36, is currently mulling over Town's offer of a one-year deal.

Former Blue Gavin Johnson is on his way out of Colchester United. Town's first ever Premiership goalscorer was offered only a six-month contract at Layer Road but wanted a year and has agreed a deal with an as yet unnamed club.

Shaun Goater is the latest striker claimed to be the out of contract player targeted by Joe Royle.<
