Davis Deal Off? - Ipswich Town News

Keeper Kelvin Davis will turn down the chance to join Premiership new boys Sunderland, according to reports. The Blues agreed an undisclosed seven-figure fee with the Black Cats last week and the former Wimbledon man has been in talks with Mick McCarthy.

However, the 28-year-old is loath to relocate to the North-East for what could be a short stint in the Premiership and with no guarantee of regular football. Estonian international Mart Poom looks likely to be first choice at the Stadium of Light even if the Davis deal is completed.

The former England U21 international has also been linked with West Ham, a move which is likely to be more attractive.

Davis currently lives in Bury St Edmunds but makes frequent trips to his parents' home in Leighton Buzzard, where his wife's family also live.

The collapse of the move could be a big blow to Joe Royle's summer plans, with some of the cash from the deal allocated for player recruitment.
