Lions Want Burley Talks - Ipswich Town News
Millwall chairman Jeff Burnige has confirmed that he is keen to speak to George Burley regarding the vacant manager's job at the Den. The Lions are likely to face stiff competition from Hearts for the former Town and Derby boss.
Burnige says he is in the process of choosing a successor to Dennis Wise who resigned in May: "I can confirm that the wheels are in motion, although I still want to keep my cards fairly close to my chest. I anticipate making a further announcement next Tuesday.
"I have been asked specifically about George Burley, whose name was linked with us in the press on Wednesday, following his departure from Derby County.
"All I will say is this. The reason for taking my time choosing a new manager is that this is a critical decision for Millwall Football Club. I came close to making an appointment recently, but now a new candidate in George Burley has emerged.
"Given what he has achieved in the game, I am bound to be interested in someone of his quality and I will be taking that interest further. That's all there is to it at the moment."
