Canada Goal for Peters - Ipswich Town News

Future Town man Jaime Peters scored the equaliser as Canada's U20 side drew 1-1 with Syria in their opening game at the FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland. Peters, 18, is set to formally sign as a Town player when pre-season training starts on July 4th.

Canada fell behind in only the second minute to Majed al Haj's goal. However, Peters headed in from close range in on 31 to win the Canadians a point at the Tilburg home of Willem II, former Blue Martijn Reuser's club.

Peters, who has already won seven caps at full level, was substituted in the 55th minute of the game.

Coach Dale Mitchell felt his not overly fancied side ought to have won the match: "There is a hint of disappointment that we didn't get all of the three points there because there were some really good opportunities for us to win it.

"Unfortunately you need all 11 players to be on top of their game to get victories at this level and we had some nerves out there."

Canada play Colombia in their second group game on Wednesday, again in Tilburg, and Italy in Kerkrade next Saturday.
