Tanner Released by Colchester - Ipswich Town News

Former Town star Adam Tanner has been released by Colchester United. The former Town star, released by Town at the beginning of the year after a drink-drive arrest, had been on a monthly deal since the beginning of the season, but hadn't managed to command a regular place.

His release comes as Town seek to recreate one of Tanner's greatest footballing moments when they travel to Liverpool on Sunday. It was Tanner's goal in just his second League start which saw Town to their first ever victory at Anfield. He had scored a stunning effort in his debut against Leicester two weeks previously.

Since then things have never been easy for Adam. Long spells in the reserves and long injuries hit him hard as well as a ban for the recreational use of cocaine. The final straw came last season with the arrest and he was given a free by Town. A short spell with Peterborough saw no long-term deal and now his spell at Colchester has ended.

Where next for a talented, but clearly troubled player?
