Hungary Tour Confirmed - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that they will be taking a trip to Hungary for the pre-season tour. TWTD first broke the news that the club was planning games in central Europe a week ago.

The Blues will arrive in Budapest on Thursday, July 21st with a game against Újpesti TE, also known as Újpest, the following day. Újpest play in nothern Budapest

On Sunday, July 24th the Blues travel to Miskolc, 120 miles to the north-east of Budapest, to play Diósgyõri VTK.

Both teams play in the top Hungarian league, Újpest finishing fourth last season and Diósgyõri ninth.

Diósgyõri merged with Balaton during the season and were subsequently suspended and then readmitted to their league pending an appeal.

Last season Town took Újpest youngster Zoltán Stieber on trial. The 16-year-old midfielder player is due back for a second spell in the new season.

Representatives from Újpest also spent time observing Town training sessions last season.

Town boss Joe Royle could well use the trip to run the rule over one or two Hungarian players. Hungary joined the EU last year and as a result their players, whose wages are generally much lower then those in western Europe, no longer require work permits to play in the UK.
