Price Would Have Played - Ipswich Town News

Wales boss John Toshack says that Lewis Price would have won his first full international cap against Slovenia last night had he been fit. Price was forced to drop out of the Welsh squad after injuring his knee in last Saturday's 0-0 draw at Leicester.

Toshack said ahead of last night's game that he would have had no qualms about picking Price ahead of Burnley's Danny Coyne, who has recently been the Wales first-choice keeper: "If Lewis had been fit he would have played against Slovenia and then we would have decided before the England game what we would do and I would have explained that to Danny Coyne perfectly openly.

"Now though Danny will play and it looks as if he will be in for the England game.

"You want to strike while the iron is hot and with Lewis having three games for Ipswich, this would have been the ideal opportunity to give him his debut and then take it from there for the next game."

Toshack will name his squad for the September 3rd England match on Friday, the former Swansea manager confirming that the Town keeper will be in the party.

The Blues expect Price to be fit enough to line-up against Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road on Saturday.
