Bowden on Naylor Appeal - Ipswich Town News
Chief executive Derek Bowden says Richard Naylor's surprise non-appearance against Preston North End on Monday was a result of the Blues being unable to gain confirmation that a player whose red card was being appealed was eligible to play. Naylor was harshly sent off against Millwall on Saturday and Town were keen for his dismissal to be overturned.
Bowden says: "On a Bank Holiday Monday we were unable to get clarity from the FA on the matter. The last thing we wanted was for the FA to get in touch and say we had been docked three points for using Richard."
This appears not to have been a problem for Burnley who were similarly keen to overturn defender Wayne Thomas's Saturday red card at Derby. The Clarets appealed and Thomas played in their game at Reading.
Naylor's suspension as a result of the red card was for only one match and Town's longest-serving player will be available for the trip to Sheffield United a week on Saturday.
Town should also have Jason De Vos back for the Blades game, the defender having missed out since cracking ribs on the opening day of the season.
