Jim: We Need More Depth - Ipswich Town News

Skipper Jim Magilton says the Town squad needs strengthening if the Blues are to finish in the play-off places this season. The Northern Irishman says the weakness of Town's squad was illustrated by the effect of the early season injuries.

Magilton called on the club's board to loosen the purse strings: "We need strengthening now, before it is too late.

"I know the directors are trying to save money and I'm the first to admit that I wouldn't want that job.

"But as things stand, for this club to finish in the play-offs this season would be a fantastic achievement.

"We've done OK with the resources we have to hand but I repeat - the squad needs strengthening. We need to bring in experienced players.

"Even last season, when things went so well for a large part of the season, we were affected when Shefki Kuqi got injured. It shook the momentum.

"We are a lot weaker now after the departures in the summer, to the point where being without two players - Ian Westlake and Nicky Forster - is almost seen as a crisis."

Magilton will make his 250th Town league appearance if he is involved for the Blues against Crewe on Saturday.
