Swede Runström Linked - Ipswich Town News

Hammarby's Björn Runström is the latest striker reported to be interesting Town. The 21-year-old is out of contract when the Swedish season ends later this month and could be one of a number of players coming on trial ahead of the January transfer window.

Runström has scored nine goals in 21 matches this season and has been linked with clubs throughout Europe, including Dutch sides Groningen and ADO Den Haag.

The Swede joined Hammarby, his local club, as a 12-year-old and was picked up by Serie A side Bologna when only 16. However, he failed to make a senior appearance with the Rossoblu or with Chievo who he joined two years later and Fiorentina, his third and final Italian club.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman rejoined Hammarby in 2004 after being linked with arch rivals Djurgådens and quickly made his debut for the Swedish U21 side.

Runström, who can also play on the wing, may be one of several strikers coming on trial. Sacked former Sheffield Wednesday man Adam Proudlock is currently at Portman Road, while Frenchman Mikael Antoine-Curier, who plays in Norway with Vard Haugesund, was linked last week.

Iceland international Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson, who plays in Sweden with Halmstad, has also been watched by Town and is expected to spend time with several English clubs over the winter.

Boss Joe Royle is keen to add another striker to his squad and, with the club's European scouting network a victim of Town's financial problems, running the rule over trialists recommended by agents is the only way the Blues can assess possible signings from abroad.

Although Town's finances continue to be very tight, chairman David Sheepshanks recently revealed that the club may be in a position to bring in a permanent signing in January.
