Manu Released - Ipswich Town News

Town have released out of favour centre-half Manu Thetis from his contract. The Frenchman had been on the transfer list most of the season and has been out of George Burley's plans for some while now.

Centre-half Manu joined from Sevilla in September 1998 for £50,000, scoring on his debut in the Coca-Cola Cup match with Luton. He played virtually the whole of the rest of the season for Town and began the next year as a regular starter despite a predeliction for yellow cards.

However, after defeats against Grimsby, Huddersfield (starring role from Marcus Stewart) and QPR he found himself dropped for the crunch game with Charlton. Amid rumours of a bust-up with George Burley this practically marked the end for Manu, a man who had started as a cult hero in his early days (TWTD Message Board regulars sponsored him, before the fanzine itself took over).

He played a few games here and there after this but was never a regular again. At the beginning of this season he went on loan to Wolves where he played three games, but things didn't work out. Since then his agent has been looking for a new club without success. TWTD wishes Manu all the best and wonders who we'll end up sponsoring now.
