Manager of the Month for Burley? - Ipswich Town News

Town's brilliant start to the season sees George Burley as an almost certain winner of the Manager of the Month award. Town's record of six wins from seven games in the League and Worthington Cup should see another award going in the manager's direction.

Town suffered two new injury problems on Saturday with Mark Venus substituted at half-time with a calf strain and John McGreal complaining of a thigh injury, however, both should be fit for Saturday's ludicrous 7.45pm kick-off at Huddersfield. Definitely out is Manu Thetis, serving his one match suspension with Tony Mowbray or Wayne Brown set to replace him. Richard Wright has been called up to the England U21s, so unless Jim Magilton is called into the Northern Ireland squad or Matt Holland is required by Ireland he will miss his first game since February 1997. Mike Salmon will take over in goal. Sean Friars will also be unavailable as he is in the Northern Ireland U21 squad.

Saturday's draw for the next round of the Worthington Cup saw us draw Crewe Alexandra. The first leg is at Gresty Road and will be played on September 14th or 15th with the return leg a week later.

Town's reserves play at Bristol Rovers' Memorial Ground this evening at 7.45pm. Town are likely to put out a fairly strong side including Jim Magilton, Adam Tanner, Mick Stockwell, Jonas Axeldal and Saturday's likely stand in 'keeper Mike Salmon.
