Joe: Lack of Cutting Edge - Ipswich Town News

Boss Joe Royle bemoaned his side's lack of a cutting edge after their FA Cup exit at the hands of Portsmouth. The resurgent Blues impressed and were unfortunate to lose the game 1-0, Uruguayan striker Dario Silva netting in the first half.

Royle said: "I am looking to bring one forward [Cardiff's Alan Lee] in next week - but I won't be spending roubles. Harry is about to start playing fantasy football and good luck to him.

"I need a hardy pro up there who can keep the ball. We need two more strikers and we will be a force to be reckoned with.

"Williams had a great chance and that would have changed the game. We passed and probed, we hit the post and flashed one wide. We just didn't have that cutting edge."

Pompey manager Harry Redknapp, set to splash new co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak's millions, agreed with Royle's assessment: "It was close game. You could see them scoring near the end but we managed to get through in the end.

"They passed it better than us for long spells but lacked that cutting edge up front. It was a great ball from Matthew Taylor and it was a good header."

Gaydamak didn't make the trip to Portman Road to catch his new investment in action.
