Platt Denies Prutton to Town - Ipswich Town News

David Platt has denied that Town are to sign their young defender David Prutton. There is apparently a story doing the rounds which claims he is about to sign for the Blues, although it doesn't seem to be one circulating amongst Town fans.

Platt said: "I don't really know where the story has come from but it's completely untrue. I spoke to George Burley when I was trying to sign David Johnson and he asked me about Prutton."

Platt, whose offer of £2.5 million for Johnson was turned down by Town, went on: "Ipswich have watched him before in the past but it was just an innocent question. Managers talk about players all the time and it was no more than that. He asked about a number of other players, such as Marlon Harewood. Somebody from Ipswich has obviously made it up. But, in any case, David is not going anywhere."

Town fans may remember that Marlon Harewood had a spell on loan at Portman Road in 98/99. He scored one goal in his five appearances, but is mainly remembered for a miss of outstanding ineptitude. As the ball bounced towards the empty goal he tried to give it a final nudge home, but succeeded only in hitting the post. It is very unlikely that Town would seek to renew their acquaintance with him.

David Platt and the Forest board are to meet to discuss whether to make a fresh bit for Johnson.
