Royle Backs Newell Claim - Ipswich Town News
Boss Joe Royle has backed Luton manager Mike Newell's claim that bungs are still rife in the game, although he had never been offered one himself.
Royle said: "It has obviously happened elsewhere. The evidence is in the book Broken Dreams [Tom Bower's book on football corruption]. No one has sued. But I'd hate to think people thought every football manager is corrupt because they are not."
Meanwhile, the Football League's Agents' Fees Report for the six months to the end of 2005 shows that Town paid out £110,242 to agents. This figure was made up of 12 new registrations, five updated contracts and seven loans. In the same period a year ago, Town's payments totalled £90,000.
