Chelsea Defeated Twice - Ipswich Town News

Both Town's senior youth teams defeated Chelsea at Playford Road on Saturday morning. Ian Nimmo, back after a lengthy absence due to a broken leg, lashed in a last minute 20-yarder to give the U18s a 1-0 victory, while Jordan Rhodes, son of goalkeeper coach Andy, scored twice as the U16s won 2-0.

Midfielder Edward Upson and central defender Russell Short were particularly impressive for the U18s. Former England star Teddy Sheringham attended the game, watching his son Charlie, also a striker, in action.

The U18s face Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday evening (KO 7pm) in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup. The Town youngsters, currently the holders of that trophy, have already defeated the Reds 3-2 in the league at this level this season season, the goals coming from Liam Craig (2) and Danny Haynes.

The Blues will be without striker Billy Clarke at Anfield with the Irishman continuing his recovery from a dislocated elbow. Better news is that fellow frontman Darryl Knights could be fit enough to play.

Town defeated Leeds 1-0 via a Clarke penalty at Elland Road in the third round and fielded senior squad regulars Shane Supple, Owen Garvan and Danny Haynes in that game.

The Blues will play Burnley at Turf Moor in the fifth round should they defeat the Merseysiders, the Clarets having defeated Fulham 2-1 in their fourth round tie last Wednesday.
