Boss Joe Royle has revealed he made an attempt to sign former loanee Danny Karbassiyoon prior to the former Arsenal trainee joining Saturday's opponents Burnley last summer. The American made six appearances during a loan spell between December 2004 and March 2005.

Royle told the club site: "Danny made a big impression here and we did make a late enquiry about him in the summer.

"I would have loved to have brought him to the club but at the time we did not quite have the funds available."
