We've received a report from Phil Loy on last night's reserve game at Watford, a game that now will be remembered as Johnson's last appearance in a Town shirt.
Johnno definitely up for it last night. Baardsen, Cox, Stephenson, Hide and
Wooter were the best known Watford first teamers. We had Karic, Brown and Johnson from first team squad.
The first real shot, after persistent Town pressure, was by Karic on 20 minutes.
28 minutes cross/shot by Karic turned in well by Johnson. The rest of half saw
equal opportunities and failings for both sides.
One minute into second half a 40 yd half volley by Abidallah fooled the whole
stadium and was tucked in well under Baardsen's left side as he dived fruitlessly at the last second.
Double substitution by Watford led to a Salmon flapping period of about twenty minutes when every Watford attack brought panic to our defence. The unnecessary conceding of a corner after a Salmon mishandle led to Watford's goal as Ifil towered above Town's defence to head home.
With three subs on Friars went down awkwardly and limped off with ten minutes to go. Dropping Midgley into midfield effectively killed the game as the ten men held on to win 2-1.
A crowd 298 was announced over the tannoy.
The reserves next play Chelsea on Wednesday of next week at Portman Road. George Burley announced that some of Town's injured will be involved: "Richard Naylor, Wayne Brown and John Scales, the three players who have had long term injuries are now back in full training and will be playing in the next reserve match against Chelsea."
Town are being linked with old boy Tommy Miller, now a Hartlepool player. Miller was part of the same youth team as Kieron Dyer but was let go by the Blues when still quite young.
Since then he has done well with the Pool, scoring 28 goals in 107 games from midfield. The Easington born player is rated at between £500,000 and £1.5 million with interest reportedly coming from several Premiership clubs.
His manager Chris Turner said of the 22-year-old: "There cannot be a better goalscoring midfielder outside of the Premiership. We are not looking to sell Tommy, but I cannot believe that people aren't queueing up to put us to the test."
